We can't stop deepfakes

Technology is a tool, and will be used as such for subjectively positive or negative purposes. The University of Washington is a public research institution and while I find this kind of technology to be potentially troubling, once this process is understood it can be counteracted. We must not allow ourselves to make black boxes of these newly emerging technologies, we must demystify them and try to understand them. We only fear what we can not understand, and technology is very much within our capacity of understanding.
