Must Visit Places in Coorg

Also known as the Scotland of India, the plush green hill-station of Coorg is the perfect location to be at, no matter what time of the year it is. Easily accessible from all the major cities like Bengaluru, Mangalore and Mysore, this picturesque area has some of the most popular tourist spots such as the famous Abbey Falls, which is located near Madikeri, the main town lying in the district of Coorg. Here are some places in Coorg that are a must visit, so make sure you stay in the Coorg hotels and resorts that are easily accessible from these spots.

Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery

This Tibetan Monastery and Golden Temple has the second largest population of Tibetans in India. The gold statue of Buddha along with the rest of the gold décor is a pleasure to look at. It is located in Bylakuppe and is home to a religious college, hospital and a Sangha community of over 5000 lamas. This is one of the main factors that have helped in escalating Coorg tourism.

Coffee Plantations

Known for its coffee plantations, Coorg contributes to around 60% of the country’s coffee produce. It is also abundant in teak, rosewood, and sandalwood forests. Stay at one of the many hotels or resorts on the estate and wake up to the fresh smell of coffee. Go for a walk on the plantations, sample some of the best coffee in the country and become a coffee growing/making maestro. It's fascinating!

Raja’s Seat

A favourite of the Kings of Kodagu, Raja's Seat is the most well-known tourist attraction in the town of Madikeri. It offers a panoramic view of the breath-taking sunsets and valley, all the way to Kerala. Just sit back, and let the magic of Gods own country fill yourself with tranquillity.
